Dressing gowns and smoking jackets were often fashioned with quilted silk collar and cuffs for extra warmth and to "collect" the falling ash from cigars. Worn in smoking lounges or in the study, these robes had mainly two functions: to protect a suit from tobacco smoke and keep warm, which is why they were mostly made in thick, smell-absorbing fabric. They're no longer just for smoking today.
The modern dressing gown is a must-have loungewear piece, perfect for a cozy day at home or as a cover-up in the morning and evening.
